Brazil is known as the land of Formula 1, yet beneath that reputation lies an extensive grassroots motorsport culture anchored by the South American Rally Championship CODASUR. With a population of 216 million and the world's eighth-largest vehicle sales market, why does Brazil remain underrepresented in global rally? The answer lies not in regulatory barriers but in cultural priorities.
Brazil's motorsport competitor population is estimated at approximately 12,000 nationally. Of these, around 3,400 hold rally competition licences, with the remainder distributed across Stock Car, formula categories, and off-road. The CODASUR enters its 45th season in 2026, with Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Brazil participating. Brazil hosts two rounds this season: Santa Catarina state in June and Minas Gerais state in October.
