Rally competition is gaining momentum across the ASEAN region, with Thailand at its centre. The ASEAN Rally Championship maintains a four-round calendar in 2026 with events in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Thailand's concentration of Japanese manufacturer assembly plants has created a distinctive sponsorship structure that leverages Japanese brand recognition in competition.
Thailand has the largest motorsport competitor population in Southeast Asia, with an estimated 4,200 FIA licence holders. Of these, an estimated 800 are rally competitors. The 2026 ASEAN Rally Championship opened in April outside Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, comprising six mixed tarmac-and-gravel stages covering 130 kilometres, with 42 entries. A notable trend is the increasing participation of demonstration cars from Toyota Motor Thailand and Isuzu Thailand, establishing a hybrid form in which competitive events double as brand communication exercises.
