Japan Rally Championship 2026 Mid-Season Analysis — The Championship Picture at the Halfway Point
Who takes JN1? The structural battle between GR Yaris and Swift, and what regional events reveal about depth
The Japan Rally Championship has passed its midpoint for the 2026 season. After five rounds, the JN1 class points leader is, by a narrow margin, a Toyota GR Yaris RS driver, but the pursuit from Suzuki Swift Sport-based Group N runners is intense, and a final-round decider looks increasingly probable.
The 2026 JRC season opened with Rally Montrey (Round 1) and has reached Round 5, the Kumakogen Rally. The points standings show the top three JN1 competitors separated by no more than 12 points in aggregate, and a mathematical reversal remains well within reach across the four remaining rounds. No season in the past five years has produced a battle this compressed, and interest across the rally audience is running high.
