European EV Rallycross 2026: The Mixed-Grid Experiment
RX2e class expansion and what the lap data actually reveals about electric versus combustion performance
The 2026 European Rallycross Championship saw RX2e class entries grow 38 per cent year-on-year, and selected rounds trialled a mixed-grid format in which electric vehicles and conventional combustion cars ran the same course. The lap data and crowd response from this experiment add a fresh dimension to the motorsport electrification debate.
RX2e is an FIA-sanctioned electric rallycross specification introduced in 2022, using dedicated chassis (Kreisel Electric-built) with 250kW electric motors. In the 2026 season, participating teams across Europe reached 22 — growth from 16 in 2024.
